As the guardian of a young cat I was in need of an interactive cat toy that would keep the animal busy for a while. I have noticed that my cats like to try to catch wiggly things that are lurking or hiding from them. They jump and lunge to grab the mystery item under a rug or sticking out from under the sofa. Well, I found something that keeps my cat occupied and activated for a long time.
The “Cat’s Meow” or also known as the “Undercover Mouse”, is an interactive cat toy that moves a wand that is attached to a motor in the middle. The wand is covered by a sheath so most of it is hidden except for its red tip that is visible to the cat. It’s an oldie-but-goodie toy, that many cat parents have purchased.
The motor mechanism needs 3 AA batteries for operation. I recommend alkaline batteries for this high draining item. The base that holds the wand and motor measures approximately 8″ or 20 cm in diameter. The yellow nylon cover measures approximately 24″ or 60 cm in diameter. The cover can get damaged as the cat plays with its claws and teeth while grabbing the moving wand so replacement covers are available for purchase.
Fun To Watch
The wand spins around under the nylon sheath, teasing the cat to grab it, attack it, and catch it. This is a fun toy to watch in use by your cats as it is interactive to a high level. You can challenge your cat by choosing from four different motion settings. These settings include slow, middle, fast and random. I am partial to the “random” category just because it makes my cats move in fun directions, and they get to use their agility a bit more. There also are attachments that can be added to the wand to keep things interesting, including a feathered tip, and a mouse tail.
I thought this was going to be a great attention holder for my youngest cat Hunee, who is about a year old. It has proven to be true, but my older cats have jumped in on the fun and love playing the game as well. Just be aware that the savvy cat who can grab the wand fast enough, can also pull it out of its holding pin. It can be bit taxing to have to re-fasten the wand when it happens repeatedly. I recommend gluing the part into its position to avoid having to frequently re-connect it.
A “Must-Have” Toy
“Undercover Mouse” cat toy is a “must-have” item in my opinion for any feline household. It distracts cats of all ages and is easy to store as it comes apart and collapses fast and easy. The cost is reasonable for about $25.00 you can’t go wrong with giving your cat something for energetic play, and to keep him occupied on an indoor day or when you can’t be playing together.
